The Cape Coral Police Department is proud to announce its new Community Engagement Program.  This multi-part initiative is designed to break down barriers between the Department and the community it serves.  We kicked off this program with a Community Engagement Forum, where we invited citizens to spend a few hours as part of a working-group, providing the Police Department with candid input about issues facing the community and the Police Department.  The input that this forum provided will help the Cape Coral Police Department chart its course into 2012 and beyond.  The Forum was held on March 5th, 2011 at Tarpon Point Marina.  If you couldn't make it, don't worry!  Thursday, March 10th, 2011 FGCU will be presenting its report summarizing all of the input the Forum participants provided.  There will be future events as the Community Engagement Program grows.  Stay tuned!

The second part of our Community Engagement Program starts right here online.  As you can see, the Cape Coral Police Department website has been re-vamped with a more open look and feel-  An open, easy to navigate layout, big buttons that allow you to get to something with just a click (or a touch for those on mobile devices like smartphones or tablets), constantly updated fresh content, and now...social media!  Check out the video below.

If you take a look to the left side of the website you will see our Flickr photo stream- a constantly rotating slideshow of photographs portraying the Police Department- Officers, equipment, vehicles, and community events.  Below that you will see our Twitter feed- here you'll find updates in (140 characters or less) about breaking news, traffic hazards, critical incidents, and what's happening in the community.

Next, below our Twitter feed you can see a series of links to these and other social media sites on which the Cape Coral Police Department can be found.  Our Facebook page is a one-stop shop for announcements about what the Police department is doing in the community- Things like Shop with a Cop, our Citizens Police Academy, and Women's Self-Defense.  On our YouTube channel you will find Public Safety Announcements, interviews, and press conferences.

Finally, you will see the RSS link for the CCPD Newsroom.  Here you will have access to all the same press releases that media outlets get AT THE SAME TIME that they get them.  Stay up to the minute by subscribing in your browser, or drag the link into your favorite news reader application.
