Detective Daniel Costa started his career with the Cape Coral Police Department in January 2009 where he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau as a road officer. He became a Field Training Officer and joined the Crisis Negotiation Team where he is currently an Assistant Team Leader. He became a detective in 2018 assigned to the Property Crimes Unit within the Investigative Services Bureau. While still performing his duties as a police officer it is his off time that he continued with his education.

Detective Costa graduated from Florida International University, located in Miami, with a Doctorate’s Degree in Adult Education and Human Resource Development. It took him over 4 ½ years to complete this goal with a total of over ten (10) years of schooling. His dissertation was law enforcement related with the purpose to develop and validate an instrument/survey to assess factors that can influence the transfer of training in law enforcement agencies. The results of his study can be used by both trainers and practitioners in the field of law enforcement to improve training programs and policies. This is the first kind of instrument to address transfer of training in law enforcement within the United States, specifically as it relates to the State of Florida.

A very well deserved congratulations is in order for Detective Daniel Costa!
