The Community Services Bureau is responsible for programs that build and deepen the relationship between our citizens and the Cape Coral Police Department and improve the quality of life in our city.
District Resource Coordinators are a team of officers who handle long-term projects, crime prevention, and quality of life issues in neighborhoods. These officers improve the safety of our citizens by conducting home and business security surveys using proven methods of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). They help prevent crime by working with citizens to form and grow active Neighborhood Watch programs. They make neighborhoods nicer and more livable by tackling chronic problems, mediating neighborhood complaints, and addressing quality of life issues.
The Community Outreach Program, headed by our Community Outreach Coordinator, enacts programs that build trust and understanding between residents and the police. The “Do The Right Thing” program recognizes youth in our community for outstanding conduct and for doing amazing things. Our Citizens Police Academy gives citizens a behind-the-scenes look at the programs and services offered by the Cape Coral Police Department in a very hands-on way. The “Shop With A Cop” program allows us to connect with youth in Cape Coral and help them have a great holiday when maybe the rest of their year has not been so good. Finally, the “Coffee With a Cop” program allows citizens to sit down and connect with their neighborhood officers in a non-threatening environment to talk about problems, ask questions, or just get to know one another.
The Police Volunteer Unit provide a wide variety of services to the Department and our city. From administrative tasks at Police Headquarters to checking vacant homes for vacationing residents, to helping patrol the roads and waterways of Cape Coral, our Police Volunteer Unit is busy giving back to the community and helping to make Cape Coral a safe place to live, work, and play. The Cape Coral Police Department Police Volunteer Unit provides over $1 million/year in in-kind services every year!
The Police Explorer Program of the Cape Coral Police Department Explorer Post 465 has been established for many years. This active police Explorer Program teaches kids about responsibility, duty, honor, and the law. You often see our kids out in the community doing service projects, or training for competition.
Finally, Community Services will encompass our new School Resource Officer (SRO) program that will place well-trained, highly motivated, tactically sound Cape Coral Police Officers in Cape Coral Schools with an emphasis on the 3 pillars of school policing: law enforcement, education, and mentorship. SROs will provide full law enforcement services to their assigned schools. In addition, they will work in partnership with schools to provide classroom education on a variety of topics related to the law and good citizenship. The SROs will also serve as role models and mentors for Cape Coral Youth.
