Subject: Cape Coral Police Wrap Up Very Successful Harry Chapin Food Drive

The Cape Coral Police Department has wrapped up their holiday food drive in which they partnered with the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida today.

Since December 1st, CCPD has been collecting non perishable food items for the food bank by placing collection bins throughout the department. Each Bureau had a collection bin for police employees to contribute: Patrol, Investigations, Special Operations, Professional Standards, Communications/Records and even top Administration.

A collection bin was placed in the lobby of Police Headquarters for members of the public to contribute to the effort.

On Tuesday December 20th, members of the CCPD SWAT Team and K9 Unit were at the Walmart Supercenter on Del Prado Blvd helping out the food drive. Members of the SWAT Team and K9 Unit posed for pictures, did a show & tell of equipment and collected non-perishable food items for the campaign.

Members of the community also stepped up with cash donations for the cause. Councilman Lenny Nesta of District 3 made a considerable donation as did Cape Coral business owner, George Mellendorf- President and CEO of LTC Solutions Inc.

An anonymous donor also gave a generous amount of money to the campaign. The total of the cash donations will enable the Harry Chapin Food Bank to purchase over $4700.00 worth of food for Southwest Florida's hungry.

The goal for food collection/donation set by the Cape Coral Police Department was 500 pounds of food. The food CCPD collected was delivered to the Harry Chapin Food Bank this afternoon and weighed in at a whopping 2,032 pounds!!

"Thanks to the generosity of our employees at the Cape Coral Police Department and the community at large, we quadrupled our goal. This coupled with the nearly $5000 in cash donations will ensure that needy families in our city will have enough food for the holidays. I believe that our partnership with the Harry Chapin Food Bank will be a lasting one"-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
