CAPE POLICE ARREST 3 TEENS FOR GRAND THEFT AUTO; 6 BURGLARIES
(December 30, 2011)- On Thursday December 29th at 6am, Cape Coral Police Officers responded to a report of a grand theft auto. A victim awoke to discover that his 2010 Chevy Traverse was missing from his driveway. When taking the call from the victim, an alert Dispatcher asked the victim if he had On-Star. The victim indeed did have On-Star.
As Officers were enroute to the victim's neighborhood, 1500 Block of SW 51st Lane, the Dispatcher contacted On-Star and within seconds the location of the stolen vehicle was known. The victim's Chevy was on College Parkway in Fort Myers headed westbound into Cape Coral.
Officers set up at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge and moments later, the vehicle entered Cape Coral. Officers pulled the vehicle over and discovered three teen agers: a 17 year old male, his 15 year old sister along with a 16 year old male friend.
Officers took the trio into custody and discovered that they were up to more than just a joyride. Officers found latex gloves, credit cards belonging to numerous victims and even a wallet from another victim both on their person as well as in the stolen vehicle.
The three suspects were brought to Police Headquarters for an interview with Detectives. Upon the conclusion of the interviews, the juveniles were charged with (1) count of grand theft auto, (6) counts of burglary and (4) counts of theft.
"This case was solved literally minutes after its discovery thanks to new technology, heads up thinking and old fashioned police work. More importantly, the victims got their property back quickly."-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
