Subject: Cape Coral Police Department Holds Press Conference to Announce Community Engagement Forum

Cape Coral Police Department Interim Police Chief Jay Murphy and Cape Coral City Manager Gary King will discuss a new community engagement plan at a press conference on Wednesday, February 16th at 10:00 AM. The press conference will be held at CCPD Headquarters, 1100 Cultural Park Blvd.

"The Cape Coral Police Department is committed to building relationships with community members who will work side-by-side as an ongoing partner with the end goal of making the community a better place to live," said Murphy. In order to build relationships with community members, a public forum has been scheduled in early March where residents can voice their opinions, thoughts and feelings about the agency and provide suggestions on ways to improve public safety services in Cape Coral. The CCPD has partnered with Florida Gulf Coast University's Institute of Government to host the community engagement forum and provide follow-up evaluation of the community's comments.

In addition, as a part of improving the community's participation with the agency, the CCPD website has been redesigned with customer service as a primary objective so residents can access information more easily. Also, residents will now be able to follow the CCPD on Facebook and Twitter and all residents are invited to "friend" the CCPD.

All media are invited and individual interviews will be scheduled in 15 minute increments following the press conference with Interim Chief Murphy and City Manager King.
