The Cape Coral Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic crash in the 1200 block of NE Pine Island Road. A car with a sole occupant was traveling eastbound on NE Pine Island Road when it crashed into one vehicle near the intersection of Hancock Bridge Pkwy.
The car continued eastbound NE Pine Island Road and struck another car near the intersection of Santa Barbara Blvd. The car continued traveling eastbound on NE Pine Island Road and rolled over in the 1200 block.
The driver of the car was pronounced deceased on scene. Cape Coral Police Traffic Homicide Investigators are on scene.
Eastbound traffic on NE Pine Island Road is shut down from Andalusia Blvd to Del Prado Blvd and will be for some time. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.
More information will be released after the family of the deceased is notified.

DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Driver of Vehicle 2 suffered minor injuries in the traffic crash.
Vehicle 2 was east on Pine Island Road and came to a stop in the north turn lane at the intersection of NE 10 Place. Vehicle 1 was east on Pine Island Road from Hancock Bridge Parkway. CCPD received mutiple calls about a traffic crash occured at the intersection of Hancock Bridge Parkway and Pine Island Road. Callers advised that Vehicle 1 and the other unknown vehicle left the scene. Vehicle 1 continued east on Pine Island Road and traveled back and forth across both lanes of travel and entered into the median several times. Sgt. Cox, who was traveling west on Pine Island Road, observed Vehicle 1 enter the median around the area of Andalusia Bouelvard and Pine Island Road and strike a palm tree and continue east. After Sgt. Cox made a u-turn and traveled through traffic, she approached the intersection of NE 10 Place and Pine Island Road and observed that Vehicle 1 had been involved in another traffic crash. It appeared that Vehicle 1 struck the rear of Vehicle 2.
Vehicle 1 was forced to the south, across the east lanes of Pine Island Road, and entered the south shoulder of the road where it rolled over. Vehicle 2 came to a stop in the intersection of NE 10 Place and Pine Island Road. The driver of Vehicle 2 suffered minor injuries (refused medical treatment). The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered life threatening injuries on scene and was pinned-in.
At 1:13 pm, Lee County EMS advised that the driver of Vehicle 1 had died on scene. At 5:15 pm, the next-of-kin of the driver of Vehicle 1 has been notified by Sgt. Cox, V.A. Lucas, and LCSO patrol Sergeant. All lanes of eastbound Pine Island Road were closed from 1:15 pm until 5:25 pm.
