Subject: Cape Coral Police Arrest Suspect in Multiple Vehicle Burglaries

On Saturday February 5th at 2:52am, Cape Coral Police Officers responded to an anonymous call that someone was breaking into a vehicle in the 5100 Block of SW 12th Place. The caller advised police dispatch that the suspect was a male wearing a black shirt, tan pants and was holding a white towel. The caller went on to state that the male fled the scene on a bicycle.

Moments later, officers surrounded the neighborhood looking out for the suspect. Officer Chad Hartzell saw a person matching the description riding a bicycle past his spot on the perimeter at Skyline Blvd and SW 51st Terrace. Officer Hartzell identified himself as a police officer and asked the male what he was doing riding his bike in the neighborhood at such an hour.

The male then dropped his bicycle and ran from the officer on foot. The male ran east from the location where he was quickly apprehended, Officer Hartzell was a collegiate track athlete.

As the subject (later identified as Mark Edward Pensmith) was detained, a consensual search of his person revealed several items, to include:
· Miscellaneous Cash
· 3 GPS systems
· Ipod Nano

He was also in possession of a mask, towel, and a flashlight.

It was learned that Pensmith broke into 4 vehicles total before he was apprehended by police.
