Subject: Cape Coral Police Make Narcotics Arrest; Seize 2.6 lbs of Marijuana
On Friday May 13th Cape Coral Police responded to 4824 Atlantic Court for what was called in as suspicious activity at 1:45pm. The caller told police that two young men live in unit #9 and were possibly dealing drugs out of the apartment.
Officer Carl Cannady parked his patrol car to where he could see activity inside of the apartment through the window. Officer Jeff Taylor arrived as back up and the two began investigating.
Officers knocked on the door of unit #9 but no one came to the door. A check of the perimeter of the apartment building led officers to find a .357 Magnum revolver in a bag that appeared to have been dropped from the window of unit #9. Officers then contacted the property manager and inquired about the occupants of the apartment. Management told officers that the previous occupants of the unit had vacated and no one was supposed to be inside of the apartment.
The property manager requested officers escort her into the unit for her safety so she could check on the condition of the apartment. As officers entered the unit, they noticed a strong smell of marijuana. Officers detained Tyler Kearney and a juvenile male who were both inside of the apartment.
In plain view, officers found a fully loaded 12 gauge shotgun, 2.6 pounds of marijuana in bags, 2 scales, a box of 12 gauge shotgun shells, a box of ammunition for a .357 magnum, $1,193 in cash among other miscellaneous items.
Tyler Brooks Kearney and the juvenile male were both arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and 5 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Thanks to the teamwork between the citizens of Cape Coral and their Police Department, we are able to conduct investigations like this and net these types of results.” –Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
