Last week, the Cape Coral Police K9 Unit laid to rest two retired dogs, K9 Odin and K9 Jey.

On Friday May 20th, K9 Odin passed away at the age of 13. Odin was initially trained in 1999 and was assigned to Officer Jack Betz from 1999 to 2003 and then Officer Chris Clapp from 2003 to 2006 when he was retired.

On Saturday May 21st, K9 Jey passed away at age 16. Jey was initially trained in 1999 and was assigned to Sergeant Dave McConnell until his retirement in 2008.

"Both dogs were certified in drug detection and patrol by the National Police Canine Association. Both Odin and Jey were responsible for many arrests, drug seizures and for the seizure of property and cash as a result of those arrests" said Sergeant Dave McConnell who supervises the Cape Coral Police Department's K9 Unit.
