Subject: *UPDATE* Homicide Investigation

On Sunday June 12th at 5:15pm, Cape Coral Police responded to a 911 call at 427 NW 10th Street. Upon arrival, Officers met with Alina Valdes-Martinez who told police that she arrived at her ex-husband's home and found him deceased inside of the residence. Officers found Ariel Desada (H/M 01-14-71) inside of the home, dead from a gunshot wound.

Detectives noted that the home was used as an elaborate marijuana grow-house. Detectives interviewed Valdes-Martinez about the cultivation of marijuana inside of the home. Valdes-Martinez admitted to detectives that she was aware of the marijuana grow operation and frequently assisted her ex-husband, Desada, harvesting the plants. Valdes-Martinez was arrested and charged with marijuana trafficking.

As of today (Tuesday June 14th), Detectives have persons of interest in the homicide. Detectives believe that this homicide was committed by a person known to the victim and not a random act of violence. Detectives want residents living in the area to know that they do not believe that a killer is in their neighborhood targeting random people.

"Our Detectives continue to work around the clock on this homicide investigation. There have been those who have questioned why the Cape Coral Police Department's Narcotics Unit investigates marijuana grow house operations. This case serves as an example of how dangerous these grow-house operations can be. We have long since known that they have the potential to attract a certain level of violence and danger to otherwise peaceful neighborhoods."-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
