Subject: Cape Coral Police Arrest Two Would-Be Burglars

Cape Coral Police arrested two teens last night on charges of Loitering & Prowling. The suspects are 14 and 17 years old therefore we are not releasing their identities.

On June 14th at 11pm, Officers Matthew Mills, Morgan Abbey and William Rosario responded to the area of SW 5th Avenue and SW 34th Street for a suspicious person call.

A caller told Police Dispatchers that there were two unknown males dumping the contents of a handbag onto the street. As the officers were en-route to the area, the caller told Police that the males had left and began walking towards Gleason Pkwy.

Officer Mills located the two juveniles in the area and stopped them for questioning. When questioned about the handbag, the teens told Officer Mills that they found it and simply went through it keeping the items that they wanted and discarding the items that they did not wish to keep. A canvass was conducted however no burglary or theft victims were located.

The teens did admit to Officers that although they had not yet committed any burglaries, they were planning on committing numerous car break-ins. Both teens were arrested and charged with misdemeanor Loitering & Prowling.

"This is another example of citizens working together with their Police Department to keep their neighborhood safe. Because of the quick actions of the caller and the teamwork and interview skills of the Officers of the 4th Platoon, numerous felony burglaries were prevented."-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
