Subject: Cape Coral Police Arrest Man for Air Conditioner Theft

On Wednesday June 1st at 10am, Cape Coral Police Officers responded to a report of a theft in progress at 409 NE 23rd Avenue. The caller told police that there was a man stealing an air conditioning unit from the home.

As officers were arriving in the area, the caller advised that the suspect had gotten the A/C unit into a red SUV and was leaving the area. A witness got the tag number and gave it to police. Officers ran the tag and discovered that it was registered to a female that lives at 2308 NE 6th Street which was not far away.

Officers responded to the location and saw a male standing by a red Ford Explorer in the driveway. The male matched the description given by the witness, therefore he was detained. The witness was brought to the scene, where he positively identified the red Explorer in the driveway as the vehicle used in the crime and the male being detained by police as the suspect who stole the A/C unit.

Officers placed Cody J Myers under arrest for Burglary, Grand Theft, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest. Two A/C units were seen in plain view through the garage door window. Detectives obtained a search warrant and recovered two A/C units that Myers had stolen.

One of the A/C units belongs to a victim that has not yet been identified. It is believed that the unit came from a vacant home or the home of a seasonal resident. It is from the area of the 400 block of NE 23rd Avenue (or surrounding area). Police are looking for that victim.

"With the high price of copper these days, A/C thefts have been plaguing southwest Florida. We are grateful for this citizen working together with their police department to solve crime."- Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
