Subject: Cape Coral Burglary Suspects Plead Guilty in RICO; Conspiracy Case

In August of 2009, Cape Coral Police Detectives began investigating a group of burglars responsible for over 30 residential burglaries throughout Lee County; many of them were committed in Cape Coral.

After arresting several members of the group for various offenses, Detectives pieced together that this group almost always committed the crimes together. This group was known and referred to as "Ohio Street" by confidential sources. This is because members of the group shared a connection with Ohio Street in Fort Myers, FL.

Detectives with Cape Coral PD contacted the State Attorney's Office and inquired about initiating a RICO case against the organized criminal group. Several attorneys from the State Attorney's Office as well as investigators from Cape Coral Police Department, the Fort Myers Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff's Office began working together to put together a RICO case.

Five members of "Ohio Street" were arrested and charged with 24 counts of burglary, grand theft, dealing in stolen property, RICO and conspiracy to commit RICO.

On June 30th, they all plead guilty to RICO and Conspiracy and are being transferred to the Department of Corrections for 10 years.

"What an outstanding display of cooperation between multiple agencies to accomplish one common goal. A lot of hard work went into this investigation and prosecution."-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
