Subject: Cape Coral Police Arrest Suspect with Assistance from WastePro Employee

On Saturday July 9th at 9:00am, a WastePro supervisor was sitting in a pick-up truck on the side of NE 3rd Street. The supervisor was parked, monitoring trash pick-up and taking notes about a particular home in the neighborhood when he noticed that someone was trying to open the passenger door of his truck.

The supervisor has a concealed weapons permit and reached for his pistol, as he realized that someone was attempting to break into his truck. As the supervisor pulled his gun, the man who was attempting to get into the truck pressed his face against the window to look inside. The suspect saw the pistol and ran to a nearby house and was attempting to hide outside. The supervisor called police to report the incident.

Moments later, Cape Coral Police arrived and began looking for the suspect. Officer Mark Bowman located the suspect, later identified as Joseph Clohessey, in the neighborhood. Clohessey was ordered to stop by Officer Bowman but he did not. Instead, Clohessey jumped a fence and ran away from officers.

As Clohessey looked back, he noticed that Officer Bowman, an Iraq War Veteran and SWAT Team member in peak physical condition, was quickly closing on him. Clohessey stopped running and surrendered to police.

Joseph Clohessey was placed under arrest for Loitering & Prowling and Resisting an Officer without Violence.

"We have a great relationship with WastePro. They have a program in which they notify Law Enforcement if they see suspicious activity. This partnership definitely aided in the apprehension of this suspect. We are also proud of the quick response by the officers. This guy definitely chose the wrong officer to run from."- Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
