Subject: Cape Coral Police Solicit Public Comments for Re-Accreditation thru CALEA

Every three years since 1989, the Cape Coral Police Department has pursued national accreditation, through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. Each time, we have achieved the status of Nationally Accredited with the most recent designating Flagship Status.

The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedure, administration, operations, and support services.

This year the Cape Coral Police Department will once again pursue national accreditation and would like to extend an invitation to the Public Hearing associated with the agency's re-accreditation assessment.

Members of the community are invited to offer comments at the public hearing on Monday August 8, 2011 beginning at 5:00pm. The session will be held at the Cape Coral Yacht Club Main Building located at 5819 Driftwood Parkway.

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling (239) 574-0674 on Sunday, August 7, 2011 between the hours of 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA's standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Cape Coral Police Department. Local contact is Captain David Newlan at (239) 574-0659.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Cape Coral Police Department's ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to:
