Subject: Cape Coral PAL Athletes Featured in 'Florida PAL Illustrated Magazine'

Two Cape Coral Police Athletic League athletes have been featured in the summer 2011 edition of Florida PAL Illustrated magazine, a statewide publication highlighting all of the Police Athletic League chapters for Florida.

Elelyn Rios, a Cape Coral PAL boxer who recently was accepted into the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, has a two page story in the magazine about her accomplishments and the benefits of belonging to PAL.

A second two-page article is dedicated to Mark Livengood, also a Cape Coral PAL boxer who himself is a junior at the US Naval Academy. Livengood came to the Cape Coral PAL gym in 2006 as a way to stay in shape for soccer and quickly developed a talent for the sweet science (boxing). Livengood, also a terrific student, caught the eye of Major Mike Pederson. Major Pederson, a US Naval Academy and the local Blue and Gold Officer (admissions liaison for the Academy) spoke with Livengood about the opportunities in the Naval Academy.

Livengood became excited about the prospect of a career in the Navy and with the support of PAL, he is living his dream.

With 6 regions and 50 individual PAL leagues across the State of Florida, it is quite an accomplishment for Cape Coral's PAL (a relatively small league) to have an athlete featured, let alone two.

"Our PAL program is 16 years strong. We have been positively impacting the lives of Cape Coral's youth for a long time. We are so proud of Evelyn and Mark for their accomplishments, as well as the hundreds of PAL kids who have come through our program. I am personally proud of the men and women who work very hard to make this program a success, especially in these tough times."- Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
