Solving January 16th Home Invasion Robbery was no Accident

(January 17, 2012)- The recent Home Invasion Robbery that occurred on Viceroy Court is a stark reminder that Police/Community cooperation is essential in combating and solving crime. Our Officers are invested in the neighborhoods they patrol and become familiar with the people who live in their assigned response areas.

Cape Coral Police Officers remain assigned to a specific geographic area (or zone) for at least one year. This is so that Officers become familiar with what looks normal for that particular area and more importantly, what looks abnormal for their zone.

Becoming familiar with those individuals who have a history with CCPD and live or hang out in a particular neighborhood is an important tool in solving crimes. This was evident in yesterday's robbery/shooting incident, as Cape Coral Police Officers identified persons of interest in the crime within minutes and had them in custody within hours.

Equally important is cultivating and maintaining relationships with honest, hard working citizens that make up a neighborhood. Their intimate knowledge of their community is invaluable to us as a Police Department as we strive to keep them safe. We do this through our Patrol Bureau, our District Resource Coordinators- Officer assigned to specific areas of the city to address neighborhood complaints, and by partnering with community groups like Neighborhood Watch and Crimestoppers.

We are always looking for new opportunities to remind our citizens about our Neighborhood Watch Program as well as the many ways to get information to us as a department:
