Cape Coral Police Arrest Serial Burglar; Case Updates

(November 28, 2012)- Cape Coral Police Detectives have arrested a serial burglar and have linked him to dozens of burglaries, grand thefts, and fraudulent pawn transactions.

Detectives arrested Michael Scott Spees on November 21st with the first set of crimes and in the following days have tied him to numerous home break-ins in Cape Coral.

In all, Spees was charged with 14 counts of burglary, 13 counts of grand theft, 6 counts of criminal mischief and false information to a pawnbroker.

"Spees was recently released from prison and thanks to outstanding police work by our detectives, he should be on his way back for a long time"-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.

CASE UPDATE: In March of this year, Cape Coral Police arrested Ashley Elaine Winters on charges of burglary and grand theft. Detectives developed probable cause for Winters' arrest for the break-in on NW 25th Avenue. A Cape Coral Police Detective assigned to the US Marshal's Fugitive Task Force tracked Winters down to a motel in Fort Myers and arrested her on the charges.

On Tuesday November 27th Winters was sentenced to just over 8½ years in prison and is now designated as a career criminal habitual felony offender and a prison re-release offender.

CASE UPDATE: In April of this year, Cape Coral Police arrested Brett Alan Jabaay on charges of burglary and grand theft. Jabaay is no stranger to Cape Coral Police and has been arrested for similar crimes in the past.

On Tuesday November 27th, Jabaay was sentenced to 7½ years in prison with a career criminal designation of habitual offender.
