Cape Police Asking for Assistance in Locating Hit & Run Driver

(March 12, 2012)- The Cape Coral Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying and/or locating a driver and vehicle that was involved in a hit and run traffic crash involving a serious injury on Saturday night.

On Saturday March 10th at 6:50pm, Cape Coral Police responded to a reported hit and run crash in the 1400 Block of SE 16th Place. A 73 year old man was walking south along the shoulder of SE 16th Place when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Traffic Investigators estimate that the vehicle was traveling 50 MPH when the pedestrian was struck.

The pedestrian was struck head-on causing serious injuries to his right leg and right arm. The pedestrian was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital as a Trauma Alert. As of Monday March 12th, the male is no longer in life-threatening condition.

The vehicle that struck the pedestrian fled the scene; however the vehicle's passenger-side mirror was left behind. The mirror was damaged and came off of the vehicle as a result of the crash. Upon examination of the mirror and other evidence at the scene, investigators believe that the suspect vehicle is a dark colored Chrysler Sebring or a Dodge Avenger. Both vehicles share the same mirror at certain years.

If anyone has information regarding this investigation, Cape Coral Police ask that you please contact them.
