Cape Coral Police Encourage Safe St. Patrick's Day Celebrations
(March 14, 2012)- St. Patrick's Day is one of the most celebrated holidays in the world. Unfortunately, to some it is synonymous with driving impaired. The Cape Coral Police Department is encouraging everyone to enjoy St. Patrick's Day, but warn people not to drink and drive. Officers will be conducting a traffic saturation patrol on Friday March 16th from Happy Hour until 2am. Officers will be patrolling the streets, looking for impaired drivers.
"There are many great bars and restaurants in Cape Coral that will have St. Patrick's Day celebrations. We encourage citizens to go out and enjoy what Southwest Florida has to offer, we just want you to get home safely. If you are going to drink, please designate a sober driver or take a taxi."- Captain Lisa Barnes, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau.
Following these easy steps, drivers can enjoy a safe and festive holiday without jeopardizing their lives and the lives of others who may be on the road.
* Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin and designate a sober driver.
* If you're impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely.
* If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don't hesitate to contact your local law enforcement.
* And remember, if you know people who are about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.
