(March 28, 2012)- On January 11, 2012 a woman called Cape Coral Police to report that her vacation rental home had been burglarized as she slept. She awoke to discover that thieves had stolen a computer, Kindle Fire tablet and her credit card.
On January 16th Cape Coral Police responded to 4928 Viceroy Court regarding an occupied burglary to an apartment in which an occupant had been shot. The shooter and his co-defendants were arrested and a subsequent search led to the recovery of the notebook computer and Kindle Fire tablet from the burglary on January 11th. The victim was able to recover her items and told police that there had been fraudulent activity on her stolen credit card. The card was used at area stores such as CVS, Hess and 7Eleven.
Video surveillance of the suspect using the stolen credit card was obtained however his identity was unknown. The suspects from the Viceroy Court burglary were shown the photos and they identified him only as his street nickname, "Paesan". On February 29th, Cape Coral Police released the photos to the media, SWFL Crimestoppers and CapeCops.com in hopes of learning his identity.
An anonymous tip was received identifying "Paesan" as 26 year old Robert John Neglio of Cape Coral. Detective Nick Jones interviewed Neglio about the crimes on March 27th to which Neglio confessed. He was arrested on charges of Grand Theft, Credit Card Fraud and Criminal Use of Personal Information. He is now in the Lee County Jail.
"This case was solved due to our strong partnership with our community. It seems that every time we ask for the public's help with identifying a suspect, someone comes through. This is community engagement in action, the citizens working with their police department to solve crime."-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
