Cape Coral Police Participating in National Night Out

(August 7, 2012)- The Cape Coral Police Department is participating in National Night Out tonight. This year is the 29th Annual National Night Out, a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).

Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2012.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

* Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; * Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; * Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and * Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Several Cape Coral Neighborhood Watch groups will be participating with block parties this evening whereby they will gather and get to know each other. This is to better enable them to effectively watch out for their neighbors within their community.

Members of the Cape Coral Police Department will be stopping by the locations to meet and greet with the community to foster good community relations.

"Our partnership with our community is one of the greatest reasons that we all enjoy a safe city in which we work, live and play. Events such as National Night Out strengthen that relationship between the Police and the citizens and ensure that we remain one of the safest cities in the State of Florida"-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
