Cape Coral Police SWAT Team Takes 2nd Place in Competition; Sniper Honored

(September 17, 2012)- On Saturday 15th 2012, the Cape Coral Police Department SWAT Team competed in the annual 'Region 6 SWAT Competition'. Eleven teams from Southwest Florida competed in SWAT related events and other tests of endurance.

The competition, which was hosted by the Sarasota Sheriff's Office, once again saw the Cape Coral Police Department SWAT team represent the City of Cape Coral with a strong performance.

After a grueling day-long competition where mere seconds separated 1ST, 2nd and 3rd place, the Cape Coral SWAT team took second place. CCPD missed tying for 1st place literally by one point. In addition, Cape Coral Police Lieutenant Jack Fulop was presented with the 'Top Sniper' award for his unmatched performance during the entire competition.

"Our SWAT Team always performs admirably and consistently finishes at the top of the pack in the various SWAT competitions in which we compete each year.

I see the same performance and dedication from the Cape Coral SWAT team during weekly operations and practices.

I also wish to thank every Officer, Detective, Supervisor and Civilian Staff member at CCPD who work extremely hard, picking up the slack when our SWAT Team is serving a warrant, responding to a call out, training or competing. Your efforts make it possible"-Sergeant Carlos Mena, SWAT Team Leader.

The following teams competed in Saturday's events: Sarasota, Collier, Lee, Highlands, Manatee and Charlotte County Sheriff's Offices, Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Naples Police Departments as well as the FBI SWAT Team.

The top three teams were:

1st Place- Sarasota County Sheriff's Office "Gold Team"

2nd Place- Cape Coral Police Department

3rd Place- Sarasota County Sheriff's Office "Green Team"
