Cape Coral Police Department Announces "24 hours of Twitter"
(October 28, 2013)- On November 1, 2013, the Cape Coral Police Department will be participating in a Global Tweet-A-Thon with hundreds of police departments from all over the world.
Organized by ConnectedCops.Net, the Global Tweet-A-Thon is intended to give people a closer look at law enforcement from all over the world, showcase the agencies that are embracing social media as a way to engage their respective communities, and to of course, have fun.
"We have a little bit of experience doing this," said Det. Sgt. Dana Coston. "Our Tweet From The Beat events over the past couple of years have been incredibly popular and successful, and just a couple of months ago we did a joint event with Lima PD. I think taking it to a global scale gives us an opportunity to help drive world-wide attention to all that Cape Coral has to offer, especially our world-class Police Department." But the intention goes beyond just holding a fun event. "By growing the community on Twitter that follows us, we are able to get information out to the public very quickly. If we post something and a large number of our followers re-tweet or share it on other social media outlets, it helps us reach thousands of people instantly, in a way we never could before."
The Global Tweet-A-Thon will begin at 8:00 AM Friday, November 1 and run through 8:00 AM Saturday, November 2. "24 Hours of Twitter" will be a Twitter exclusive, so residents are encouraged to go to www.twitter.com and sign up for a free account. Once signed up, follow the Cape Coral Police Department on Twitter. The Cape Coral Police Department Twitter name is @CapePD. To follow along with all of the agencies participating in the Global Tweet-A-Thon, search for the hashtag #poltwt .
"We plan on taking it up a notch. We're still going to do the virtual ride-alongs that made Tweet From the Beat so popular, and people will be able to have live Q&A throughout the day, but we have some special things in store for the citizens who participate."- Det. Sgt. Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department Public Affairs Officer
