(April 24, 2012)- Cape Coral Police Officers from the 1st Platoon along with the K9 Unit have arrested two suspects in a brazen daytime break-in and grand theft auto.
On Monday April 23rd at 8am, Cape Coral Police Officers were called by a neighbor who advised that a Toyota pickup truck was backed into the driveway of 3233 SW 4th Terrace. The caller advised that the residence was supposed to be vacant. The witness told officers that a black male was walking around the home and was last seen at the rear of the residence. A second black male was seen sleeping inside of the cab of the pickup.
Officers arrived and discovered the truck was indeed backed into the driveway all the way up to the garage door. Officers checked the license plate of the truck and discovered that it was a stolen truck out of Fort Myers. Officers then made contact with the male in the truck, identified as Rubens Aspilaire. Aspilaire was detained while police looked for the second suspect.
Officers surrounded the home and saw the second suspect, later identified as Jerry Adam, attempting to exit through the rear slider. Adam saw the officers and retreated back into the home. Upon the K9 Unit arriving, an announcement was made for Adam to exit the home or the Police K9 was going to be deployed into the home. Adam exited the home and surrendered peacefully.
Detectives and Forensics Personnel arrived and did an inventory of the stolen truck. A bag containing a 9mm pistol with a 30 round magazine, Tom-Tom GPS, flashlight, screwdriver, pry bar and tool bag (containing a hammer, wrench, razor knife and socket set) was located inside of the truck.
Jerry Adam was arrested on charges of Grand Theft Auto, Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools and Three Failure to Appear Warrants.
Rubens Aspilaire was arrested on charges of Possession of Burglary Tools, Burglary, Possession of Marijuana, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Grand Theft and a Failure to Appear Warrant.
Both are being held in the Lee County Jail without Bond.
"This was outstanding work by the Officers, Detectives, Forensics Personnel, Dispatchers and the Neighbors who made the right decision to call their Police Department. Because of this partnership, two dangerous felons are off of our streets and out of our neighborhoods."- Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
