Driver Dies in Thursday Afternoon Traffic Crash
(March 11, 2013)- A driver who was involved in a traffic crash last Thursday has died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
On Thursday, March 7, 2013 at around 1:41 PM, Cape COral Police responded to an injury crash that occurred at the intersection of Pondella Rd and Old Pondella Road.

LOCATION: Old Pondella Road and Pondella Road.
CASE NUMBER: 13-003735
VEHICLE 1: 2005 Dodge Magnum car, Florida tag K055UV.
DRIVER 1: Phyllis A. Ritenour, W/F, 1-9-32
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Ritenour suffered no injuries in the traffic crash.
PASSENGER 1: Norman R. Ritenour, W/M, 7-22-29
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Ritenour suffered no injuries in the traffic crash.
VEHICLE 2: 2006 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle
DRIVER 2: Carl R. Hoffman, W/M, 4-23-48
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Hoffman suffered serious injuries in the traffic crash
Vehicle 1, a Dodge Magnum car, was traveling East on Old Pondella Road and approaching the intersection of Pondella Road. Vehicle 2, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, was traveling North on Pondella Road in the inside lane.
Vehicle 1 pulled into the intersection to turn North onto Pondella Road and pulled in front of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 2 could not avoid Vehicle 1 and struck Vehicle 1 on the rear passenger side. The driver and passenger of Vehicle 1 suffered no injuries. The driver of Vehicle 2 (who was NOT wearing a helmet) suffered injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.
On scene, the driver of Vehicle 2 was conscious and alert prior to being transported.
On March 10, 2013 at 8:47 pm, the driver of Vehicle 2 died at Lee Memorial Hospital due to injuries suffered in the traffic crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol/drugs played a role in this traffic crash. The case has been assigned to our Traffic Homicide Investigators.
This incident marks the 10th traffic related death on Cape Coral roads this calendar year. This would have been the 11th traffic fatality in Cape Coral, however a previously reported traffic homicide was ruled a death due to medical causes rather than being attributable to the crash.
