Cape Coral Police Arrest Suspect for Attempted Felony Murder

(March 5, 2013)- Cape Coral Police have arrested 41 year-old Jose Luis Acevedo of 303 SW 16th Terrace on charges of Attempted Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault for his involvement in an early morning domestic violence incident.

At 6:20am, Cape Coral Police received a call regarding a vehicle that crashed into a home located at 303 SW 16th Terrace. Officers arrived and discovered that a mini-van struck the rear exterior wall of the home where the master bedroom is located.

Officers found Acevedo and his wife, the victim, in the residence. The victim was seriously injured.

Our investigation revealed that Acevedo willfully drove his van into the exterior wall of the home where the master bedroom was located, knowing that his wife (victim) and their 7 year old son were inside.

Acevedo then exited the van, walked around to the open garage door and confronted Papa-Sanchez. The two began to arguing and Acevedo armed himself with an aluminum baseball bat. Acevedo struck the victim multiple times with the bat causing serious injuries to his wife. This was all done in front of the couples’ son.

The victim suffered injuries to her skull, fractures to her forearm, multiple contusions, lacerations and defensive wounds.

The victim was trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital for her injuries, where she remains. She is expected to survive.

Jose Luis Acevedo was taken into custody and transported to Cape Coral Police Headquarters where he confessed to Detectives that he indeed tried to kill his wife. Acevedo has since been taken to the Lee County Jail. The couples’ 7 year old son was not injured and is in the care of relatives.
