Traffic Enforcement Operation Nets 3 Arrests

(March 09, 2013)- Last night, the Cape Coral Police Traffic Unit conducted a Saturation Patrol Operation from 9:00 PM until 3:00 AM.  The purpose of the saturation was to curb the recent trend of aggressive driving. The saturation was also due to a high volume of crashes that were caused by aggressive or inattentive drivers. The city-wide operation focused on red light running and violation of traffic control devices of all kinds. "We are finding in our traffic fatalities that it is not just one offense causing the crashes, but a variety of aggressive driving behaviors," said Sergeant Patrick O'Grady of the Cape Coral Police Department Special Operations Bureau.

Over the course of the 6-hour operation, a total of 55 traffic citations (40 moving violations, 6 non-moving violations, 2 citations for no proof of insurance, 2 citations for driving with a suspended Drivers License, and 5 citations for persons not wearing their seatbelt) and 1 written warning were issued.

In addition to the traffic citations, there were a total of 3 arrests made- 2 for DUI and 1 for possession of marijuana.

"The Cape Coral Police Department is committed to safe roads for our community. Operations such as this allow us to address and hopefully change dangerous driving behaviors and, as evidenced by the arrests that were made, take dangerous drivers off the street before they hurt themselves or someone else."- Sergeant Dana S. Coston
