Cape Coral Police Involved in Shooting Overnight; One Person Deceased

(June 24, 2013)- A little bit before 2:00 AM, Cape Coral Police were dispatched to a suspicious person call in the 2200 block of SE 15 St.  A caller advised that there was an armed subject walking in the street with a rifle.  A second call, a short time later, advised that shots had been fired.

Cape Coral Police arrived on scene and made contact with the armed subject.  Gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of the armed subject at the scene.   None of the responding officers were injured.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.  Units will be in the neighborhood throughout the day as the crime scene is processed and evidence is gathered.  As per standard procedure, the involved officer(s) is/are placed on administrative leave pending the completion of an administrative investigation.

Names of the deceased and the officer(s) are not being released at this time.  An additional release will be sent with further information once it becomes available.
