Cape Coral Man Arrested for Possessing Firearms on School Grounds; Arrested Again, Hours after Being Released from Jail

(August 27, 2013)-  On Monday afternoon, Kenneth A Pearson arrived on school grounds at Oasis Charter School. Cape Coral Police Officers were mindful that Pearson may arrive at the school after being made aware that morning of an ongoing dispute between Pearson and his estranged wife, who is employed at the school.

Officers were informed that Pearson typically carries firearms and had been calling his estranged wife during the day on Monday and she was concerned for her safety. Pearson arrived at the school and was walking towards the school building. Officers, who were on alert for Pearson, saw him and confronted him. Pearson stated that he was there to drop off the couples’ son for school, even though it was the last period of the school day.

Officers asked Pearson if he had any firearms and Pearson admitted that he did indeed have two guns in his vehicle, an unloaded .38 revolver and a fully loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Pearson does not possess a concealed weapons permit. Pearson was arrested for possession of a firearm on school grounds and transported to jail. Pearson was not armed as he was walking towards the school building.

While Pearson was in the Lee County Jail, he was served with a No-Contact Order which prohibits contact with his estranged wife. Pearson was released from jail shortly after midnight and began sending text messages to his estranged spouse. Officers made contact with Pearson and again placed him under arrest for violation of the no-contact order.
