Interim Chief of Police Bart Connelly Releases Statement Regarding Missing Child Investigation

(September 25, 2013)- Interim Cape Coral Police Chief Bart Connelly has released a statement regarding today's missing child investigation. His statement is below:

"Today's event, the missing child investigation involving James Witty, highlights the importance of a strong partnership between the Police Department, the Community it serves, the media and other public and private entities.

Our officers became aware that James was missing and immediately coordinated with our local, state, private and federal partners in initiating our missing child protocols to include a search and investigation of the incident.

Another major component of that coordination was partnering with media, and directly with our community via social media to get the information on James out as quickly as possible.

Although James was safe all along we would have expended a great deal of resources and worry, over a longer period of time, if it was not for a teacher seeing the story on the news and contacting us. The power of this partnership was demonstrated today, as James was located within an hour of us publicizing his case.

The Cape Coral Police Department enjoys a relationship with the media and our community that is the envy of many. I'm grateful for that bond today and as Interim Chief of Police it is my commitment to see that it continues"-Bart Connelly, Interim Chief of Police.
