Cape Coral Sexual Battery Suspect Arrested in Massachusetts
(September 26, 2013)- A man wanted for a sexual battery that occurred in Cape Coral was arrested last night in Massachusetts. Jeffrey A Leclair, 48 was arrested by the Massachusetts State Police on a Capital Sexual Battery warrant authored by Cape Coral Police Major Crimes Detectives.
In August, a woman reported to Cape Coral Police that her daughter had disclosed to her that she had been sexually abused by the woman's boyfriend, Leclair, over the past several months. The woman and her seven year old daughter had been living with Leclair in Cape Coral.
Leclair denied the allegations when interviewed by detectives. Leclair then fled to Massachusetts during the investigation. The victim made a detailed and compelling disclosure to investigators and child counselors with the Child Protection Team. Upon working with the State Attorney's Office, Cape Coral Police secured an arrest warrant for Leclair on charges of Capital Sexual Battery. Cape Coral Detectives assigned to the US Marshal's Office Fugitive Task Force, working with the Massachusetts State Police, located Leclair last night. He was arrested and will face extradition back to Florida.
"For us to catch this suspect was paramount. Leclair preyed upon a child, the most vulnerable group of society. We are grateful for the partnership between our detective in the US Marshal's Fugitive Task Force and the Mass State Police as well as our Major Crimes Unit and the State Attorney's Office. These strong bonds lead to criminals being apprehended and our streets safer"-Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
