(October 17, 2014)- Cape Coral Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigators have concluded an almost 2-month long investigation into an early-morning crash that involved a young bicyclist and a Lee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy driving a marked patrol car.
Investigators have concluded that Deputy Doug Hood was at-fault in the August 22nd crash that resulted in the death of 15 year-old Austin Dukette of Cape Coral.
The investigation revealed a number of factors contributed to the crash to include environmental conditions, the computer in the patrol car, as well as dark clothing worn by Dukette and inadequate lighting on the bicycle.
Earlier today, Cape Coral Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigators met with Command Staff from LCSO and issued a citation for Careless Driving to Hood.
At this time, the investigation is closed.
