(November 13, 2014)- Cape Coral Police Department responded to a call earlier this afternoon of a child hit by a car in the 700 block of SW 5th St.
Initial reports were that the child sustained life-threatening injuries when a vehicle turned into the driveway of a residence, striking the child at low speed. Police, Fire, and EMS units responded. The child was trauma alerted to a nearby hospital. Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigator and Forensics Personnel responded.
It was later learned that the child's injuries were non-life-threatening. The Major Crash Investigator's initial synopsis is below:

ASSIGNED MCI: M/Cpl. Satterlee
VEHICLE 1 (V-1): Oldsmobile Silhouette mini van.
DRIVER 1 (D-1): Esther Salas Fuentes, H/F, 48, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Fuentes suffered no injuries in the traffic crash.
PEDESTRIAN: ***JUVENILE*** Juan Manuel Fuentes Jr, H/M, of Cape Coral, Florida.
PEDESTRIAN INJURIES: Fuentes initially reported life threatening injuries.
SYNOPSIS: V-1 was traveling East on SW 5 Street and pulled into the driveway of 728 SW 5 Street at a slow speed. The driver continued towards her garage when her 4 year old son went in front of the vehicle. The front right wheel of V-1 drove over the Pedestrian. V-1 came to an immediate stop and the juvenile got up from the ground. Lee County EMS responded and trauma alerted the juvenile to a local hospital. Hospital staff advised that the juvenile suffered minor injuries (scrapes to his head) and was to be released soon.
MCI Satterlee and Forensics Specialist Buckner responded. The next-of-kin has been notified. The traffic crash is NOT alcohol/drug related. Case is complete, accident report completed.
