(November 14, 2014)-  The Cape Coral Police Department Police Volunteer Unit is seeking applicants for its upcoming Police Volunteer Unit Academy.

The Police Volunteer Unit Academy will be held the week of February 2, 2015 at Cape Coral Police Department Headquarters.

Upon successfully completing the class, our volunteers will have the opportunity to serve their community in any one, or all of the three divisions of the Police Volunteer Unit.

Patrol Division – This division patrols the streets of Cape Coral, assisting with the enforcement of non-moving violations such as handicap parking, parking in a fire lane, median parking, etc. They do vacation house checks, direct traffic at crashes, etc. They work special events and other events as assigned.

Marine Division – This division patrols the canals of Cape Coral, watching for safety hazards, etc. They also patrol the parks that feature boat launching ramps.

Administrative Division – This division works the information desks at the Cape Coral Police Department headquarters and at City Hall. They also do fingerprinting and some clerical work.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age, a resident of Lee County, and possess a valid Florida Drivers’ license.  All applicants will be interviewed, fingerprinted, and must satisfactorily complete a background check.
