(December 31, 2014)- Last night around 10:40 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a major crash involving two vehicles in the 3000 block of Del Prado Boulevard S.
Two vehicles that were both traveling northbound at a high rate of speed collided, sending one of the vehicle, a black GMC Envoy SUV, across the median into oncoming traffic. The vehicle rolled over multiple times, ejecting the driver. The SUV came to rest in the parking lot of 3046 Del Prado Boulevard S.
The driver of the SUV, Tyler Francis Richards, 18, of Cape Coral, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The passenger in the SUV, Joy Antoinette Stevens, 20, of Cape Coral, sustained minor injuries.
The other vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla, driven by a juvenile 17, of Cape Coral, left the roadway and eventually came to rest in a nearby parking lot. The juvenile sustained no injuries in the crash.
Investigation on-scene revealed that this traffic crash is not alcohol/drug related. This traffic crash is an ongoing criminal investigation.

VEHICLE 1 (V-1): A black GMC Envoy SUV.
DRIVER 1 (D-1): Tyler Francis Richards, W/M, 18, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Richards died on scene due to injuries suffered in the traffic crash.
PASSENGER 1 (P-1): Joy Antoinette Stevens, W/F, 20, of Cape Coral, Florida.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Stevens suffered minor injuries in the traffic crash but refused medical transport.
VEHICLE 2 (V-2): A red 4 door Toyota Corolla.
DRIVER 2 (D-2): ***JUVENILE***, W/M, 17, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Juvenile suffered no injuries in the traffic crash.
SYNOPSIS: Both vehicles were driving North on Del Prado Boulevard approximately 70-80 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. In the 3000 block, the front right of Vehicle 1 and the left rear of Vehicle 2 collided. This collision caused Vehicle 1 to lose control and cross over the median sideways. Vehicle 1 entered across the South lanes and rolled over several times. During the rolling, the driver of Vehicle 1 was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest on the sidewalk. Vehicle 1 continued and rolled into the parking lot of 3046 Del Prado Boulevard South where it came to a stop. After impact, Vehicle 2 drove into the median and then back to the East where it drove off the roadway and came to a stop in a parking lot.
The driver of Vehicle 1 died on scene due to injuries suffered in the traffic crash. The passenger of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries in the traffic crash and refused medical transport. The driver of Vehicle 2 suffered no injuries in the traffic crash.
The next of kin has been notified. MCI Satterlee/Green, Forensics Specialist Buckner and V.A. Seymour responded to the scene.
This traffic crash IS NOT alcohol/drug related. This traffic crash IS an ongoing criminal investigation. The traffic crash investigation closed all lanes of Del Prado Boulevard for several hours.
