(December 31, 2014)-  Cape Coral Police Detectives have made two arrests in a December 21st home invasion that left two people in a SW Cape Coral duplex shot sent three people (two victims and one suspect) to the hospital.

As Officers and Detectives were on scene of the home invasion around 2:00 AM Sunday morning, Ft. Myers Police contacted the Cape Coral Police in reference to a black male being dropped off at Lee Memorial Hospital. According to FMPD a red or burgundy Impala had been seen driving through the parking lot of the hospital. LMH employees were outside when they heard a scream for help. They learned that a male had been left behind by the Impala. Employees rushed over to where the vehicle was leaving the parking lot area and were able to obtain a tag number.

The car had left behind a black male behind with several gunshot wounds. He had no identification on him and was rushed inside for treatment. According to hospital personnel this happened at around 2:29 AM, twenty-one minutes after the initial home invasion call in Cape Coral. The unidentified black male fit the description of the suspects in the home invasion.

Detectives went to Lee Memorial Hospital to get a statement from the one of the victims and to see if the unidentified male was a suspect in the home invasion. A check with FMPD and LCSO revealed that they were not working any active shooting cases at the moment and it was determined the male fit the description provided by the victims and witnesses. The bloody clothing that had been removed from the male was secured for evidence. A mobile fingerprint scanner was used to identify the male and he was identified as Tyler Bernard Bighames, DOB: 4/12/1991.

Ft. Myers Police were able to locate the vehicle that had dropped off Bighames at the hospital at the residence of Michael Sanders at 3606 Seminole Ave.  In the rear passenger side of the vehicle, they were able to observe large blood stains on the cloth seats.

Investigation revealed that Bighames, Sanders, and one other suspect, planned and committed the home invasion on December 21, 2014 at a duplex located at 4729 SW 11 Ct. During the robbery, Bighames was subsequently shot by one of the victims. Bighames was released from Lee Memorial Hospital on December 29th and was taken into custody by Cape Coral Police Detectives.  Sanders surrendered to Cape Coral Police Detectives at the Cape Coral Police Department Headquarters.  An additional arrest of another suspect is pending.  Evidence points to this being drug-related.
