Cape Coral Police Department to Host "Coffee With a Cop" at
Starbucks, 1860 NE Pine Island Rd,
on Tuesday, May 6, 2014
(April 18, 2014)- CAPE CORAL, FL—On May 6, 2014, officers from the Cape Coral Police Department and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee.
All community members are invited to attend. The event begins at 8:00 AM on May 6, 2014 at Starbucks located at 1860 NE Pine island Rd. and runs until 10:00 AM. Please contact Det. Sergeant Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department Public Affairs Officer with questions: (239) 242-3341.
Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the Department’s work in Cape Coral’s neighborhoods.
The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
“We are hoping to build on the tremendous success of our first “Coffee With a Cop” event we held in January and bring this event to a new location to talk with different folks about whatever is on their minds…and drink coffee.”- Det. Sergeant Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department Public Affairs Officer.
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
