Cape Police Conducting Death Investigation; Recover Body From Canal

(April 25, 2014)-  Cape Coral Police Detectives are working a death investigation today after workers at a SW Cape Coral home found a body in a canal.

At around 11:20 AM, Cape Coral Police, Fire and EMS units responded on a possible drowning at 933 SW 40th Terrace, Cape Coral.  Workers at the home found a person, floating face-down in the water near a seawall.  The subject appeared to have been in the water for some time and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body has been taken by the Medical Examiner to determine cause of death and identify the subject.  While Detectives are working this case, it is not believed that there is any danger to the public at-large.

No additional information is being released at this time until a positive identification can be made and next-of-kin can be notified.

"While many are wanting to draw a connection to this investigation and the missing person investigation from earlier in the week, it is entirely too early to do so.  Making conclusions prematurely does a disservice to the investigations and to the families of all involved.  When we have the information, we will make it available as soon as possible."- Det. Sergeant Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department Public Affairs Officer
