Cape Coral Police Department Memorial Day Weekend Boating Enforcement Results

(May 27, 2014)-  Long holiday weekends in SW Florida mean an extra day of fun in the sun.  This is especially true for recreational boaters.  When that happens, the Cape Coral Police Department has to make sure that boaters are being safe while they are having fun.  So, the Cape Coral Police Department marine Unit conducted extra patrols this Memoiral Day weekend in hopes of keeping everyone's time on the water safe and enjoyable.

The results from Memorial Day Weekend Operation are as follows:

  • Vessel stops:  42
  • Verbal Warnings:  16
  • Written Warnings:  10
  • Vessel Inspections:  15
  • Boating Citations:  1

In addition to enforcement activities on the water, the Cape Coral Police Department Marine Unit was busy with a number of other non-enforcement related activities, including:

  • Assisted Patrol and ISB in possible Missing Endanger person / Suspicious Circumstance at the Yacht Club.
  • Assisted Patrol / Fire / EMS – Drowning at CCYC.  (Multi-Agency MERT Response)
  • Special Detail – 41 Bridge for Ft. Myers downtown Memorial Day ceremony.
  • Assisted disabled vessel at congested channel intersection.
  • Assisted Traffic with opening of Ford’s Boat House in the YC park and Marina.
  • Assisted with a intoxicated person / Medical call at the Yacht Club.
  • Numerous Safety pamphlets were handed out at the various boat ramps by the PVU Marine Unit throughout the Holiday weekend as well.

Note: We had 3 to 4 Officers on the water at the same time throughout the Holiday Weekend.
