Cape Coral Police Volunteer Unit is Seeking Applicants


(July 11, 2014)-  There will be a Police Volunteer Unit Academy class the week of September 29 through October 3, 2014  at Cape Coral Police Department headquarters.

Upon successfully completing the classes, our volunteers will have the opportunity to serve their community in any one, or all of the three divisions of the Police Volunteer Unit.

Patrol Division – This division patrols the streets of Cape Coral, assisting with the enforcement of non-moving violations such as handicap parking, parking in a fire lane, median parking, etc. They do vacation house checks, direct traffic at crashes, etc. They work special events and other events as assigned.

Marine Division – This division patrols the canals of Cape Coral, watching for safety hazards, etc. They also patrol the parks that feature boat launching ramps.

Administrative Division – This division works the information desks at the Cape Coral Police Department headquarters and at City Hall. They also do fingerprinting and some clerical work.

To apply, fill out an application at Cape Coral Police Department headquarters, 1100  Cultural Park Blvd. All applicants will be interviewed, fingerprinted and subject to a background check.

Applicants must be over 21 years of age, a resident of Lee County, and possess a valid Florida Drivers’ license.

Deadline for applications is August 8.

There are also some openings for information desk volunteers. Information Desk Volunteers do not need to attend the academy to work the information desks.
