Segway Rider Threatened with Gun
(July 21, 2014)- Cape Coral Police arrested a man on Saturday night after he threatened a Segway rider with a gun.
On 07/19/14, at approximately 7:25 PM, Hours, Cape Coral Police responded to a Aggravated Assault near the 5900 block of SW 1st Court. The caller reported that a subject pointed a gun at him.
The victim was in his neighborhood riding his Segway and stopped in an empty lot to admire the view overlooking the water. Two residents (Daniel Hunt and his girlfriend, Susan Santillo) at 5937 SW 1st Court, just north of the empty lot, took offense to the man being in the lot next to their house and started yelling at him. The victim then left the area and returned a few minutes later to see if there were any posted “No Trespassing” signs on the empty lot. Upon the victim's return, the resident (Mr. Hunt) came back outside of his residence, this time armed with a black semi-automatic .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun. Mr. Hunt then confronted the victim (who was in the street and not on anyone's property), pointed the firearm at him with his finger on the trigger, and threatened him.
The victim immediately left the area while in fear for his life and called the Cape Coral Police Department. Mr. Hunt contended that he had a gun down by his side as he was defending his property. Based on probable cause gleaned from the investigation, Mr. Hunt was arrested and transported to Cape Coral Police Department. Santillo showed Officers where her firearm was located inside of the residence. Digital photographs were taken and MCU Detective Grau was notified. Hunt was later transported to the Lee County Jail.
ARRESTED: Daniel E. Hunt, W/M, DOB: 08-09-1950, of 5937 SW 1st. Court, Cape Coral, FL.
