Cape Coral Police Warn of Purse-Snatcher; Looking for Suspect

(July 24, 2014)-  On Thursday, July 24th, 2014 at approximately 9:45 a.m., officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to Publix, 1631 Del Prado Boulevard South, in reference to an attempted purse snatching.

According to the elderly victim, she just finished placing her groceries in the back seat of her vehicle when she was approached by a younger, white female.  The female told her she was thirsty and asked if she could have a $1.  The victim offered to walk back into the Publix with her so that she could buy her a drink from the vending machine.  The two walked back inside Publix and approached the vending machine.  The victim had her purse on her shoulder but she was also holding it in front of her.  The victim looked through her purse and wallet for money.  While looking, the female suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and attempted to pull it from her grasp.  Because the elderly victim maintained a hold on her purse, the two fell to the ground.  In the struggle, the victim bit the suspect.  The female suspect then stood back up and fled to the parking lot.  The elderly victim ran to the parking lot and was yelling that she had been robbed.  A witness in the parking lot took out his cell phone and took a picture of the truck the female got into.

According to a picture taken by a witness in the parking lot, the vehicle appears to be a Black 4-Door Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The Florida license plate is unknown at this time.  The female got into the passenger side of the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle appeared to be a white male.

The victim described the female suspect as white, in her early 20’s, thin build, with long dark hair, wearing a shirt, shorts and sneakers.  In addition, the video shows that the female has a tattoo on her upper right arm, she has her hair in a ponytail and she is wearing a dark colored tank top, shorts and white sneakers.

The elderly victim sustained minor injuries.
