Cape Coral Police Investigating Early-Morning Serious Injury Crash
Involving Deputy and Bicyclist


(August 22, 2014)-  Early this morning, Cape Coral Police responded to a serious injury crash in the 600 block of Kismet Parkway W.  This was a car vs. bicycle crash involving a juvenile bicyclist and a Lee County Deputy, operating a marked patrol car.  The bicyclist sustained life-threatening injure as a result of the crash.  Cape Coral Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigators, Forensics, and Victim Advocates responded to the scene.  At this time, the investigation is still ongoing.  The juvenile was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  The Deputy did not sustain any injuries as a result of this crash.

Vehicle 1: 2011 Ford Crown Victoria (LCSO marked patrol vehicle)
Driver 1: Deputy Douglas E. Hood, 14750 Six Mile Cypress Pkwy., Fort Myers, FL 33912
Injuries: Hood suffered no injuries as a result of the traffic crash.

Bicycle 1: Silver Mongoose BMX style bike
Pedestrian 1: ***JUVENILE*** Austin Dukette, 15, of Cape Coral, FL.
Injuries: Dukette suffered life threatening injuries as a result of the traffic crash.

Vehicle 1 was traveling West on Kismet Pkwy at the 600 block in the inside lane. Bicycle 1 was traveling West on Kismet Pkwy at the 600 block on the side of the roadway next to the inside lane.

As Vehicle 1 was traveling, the left front bumper of Vehicle 1 struck the rear tire of Bicycle 1. Pedestrian 1 was then ejected from the bicycle and struck the road. Pedestrian 1 then traveled West, sliding to his final rest on the road. After the collision, Vehicle 1 traveled West, skidding to its final rest. Pedestrian 1 suffered life threatening injuries as a result crash and was trauma alerted to a local hospital.  

Due to injuries sustained by Pedestrian 1, and the severity of the traffic crash, THIs Green and Satterlee, along with Forensics responded and VA Seymour responded to the scene.  The Pedestrian is listed in critical condition and airlifted to a hospital in Tampa (after receiving initial medical attention locally).  Pedestrian 1 was not wearing a helmet at the time of the traffic crash.

At this time, the case is pending further investigation.  Next-of-kin for Pedestrian 1 has been notified.

This Crash is not alcohol or drug related. Officer N. Green is the assigned investigator.
