(October 1, 2015)- Cape Coral Police have made an arrest in one robbery, and solved a second.
Officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Circle K located at 935 Country Club Boulevard Tuesday night around 9:15 PM. A W/M suspect using a towel to conceal his face approached the cashier and demanded money. The suspect was given cash from he register and he fled the business.
K-9 Officer Clapp was in the area when the call came out and he noticed a white station wagon pass him on SE 10th Street, a short distance from the Circle K. Officer Clapp followed the vehicle as it stopped at the gas pumps of the Speedway at 1006 Del Prado Blvd. S. Officer Clapp watched the driver of the vehicle as he remained in the car. The driver was changing his clothes and threw a white towel over the back seat. When Officer Clapp approached the driver he was leaning over the seat counting and folding out money. When Officer Clapp contacted the driver he began hiding the money. Clothes matching those worn by the suspect at the Circle K were also seen in the car. The driver was detained and identified as Peter Bonagura, 38, of Cape Coral.
Cape Coral Police Detectives responded to the scene to assist. Bonagura was placed under arrest for robbery and was later transported to Lee County Jail. Bonagura's vehicle was towed and searched pursuant to a search warrant.
Earlier on the same day, a tipster came forward regarding a news release Cape Coral Police Department sent last week regarding a similar Robbery at the Publix at 1631 Del Prado Boulevard S. (link to original news release is below) and provided information implicating Bonagura in other robberies that have taken place recently here in SW Florida. Based on the positive identification from the tipster and additional corroboration from witnesses at the Publix robbery, Detectives charged Bonagura with the September 25th Publix robbery. He was charged while still in custody at the Lee County Jail.
