(October 11, 2015)- An injury crash yesterday afternoon has prompted a reckless driving investigation by the Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigator.
Yesterday afternoon around 2:45 PM, Officers responded to a T-bone crash at the intersection of Del Prado Boulevard and SE 47 Street.
The crash resulted in one person, Christopher Krishna Gokool-John, 18, being transported as a trauma alert to a local hospital. Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigator and Forensics personnel responded to the scene. Gokool-John's condition was later upgraded to "minor injuries" and he was released from the hospital.
Witnesses who followed Gokool-John's vehicle from Fort Myers saw reckless driving prior to entering Cape Coral, and also saw Vehicle 1 traveling approximately 70-80 mph (witness observation) prior to the crash on Del Prado Boulevard, causing the traffic crash. This investigation is ongoing.

LOCATION: Intersection of Del Prado Boulevard and SE 47 Street
VEHICLE 1: Blue 2007 BMW 328 car.
DRIVER 1: Christopher Krishna Gokool-John, 18, W/M, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Gokool-John originally suffered what were believed to be life threatening injuries (later upgraded to minor injuries).
PASSENGER 1: Terrance A. Lovejoy, 20, W/M, of, Cape Coral, Florida.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Lovejoy suffered minor injuries.
VEHICLE 2: Silver 2006 Ford F150 truck.
DRIVER 2: Donald Joseph Donofrio, 62, W/M, of Cape Coral, Florida 33904.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Donofrio suffered minor injuries.
SYNOPSIS: Vehicle 1 was North on Del Prado Boulevard at a high rate of speed in the inside lane. Vehicle 2 was South on Del Prado Boulevard in the East turn lane at the intersection of SE 47th Street. Vehicle 2 began to make a left turn across Del Prado Boulevard when Vehicle 1 quickly and abruptly changed lanes into the middle lane at a high rate of speed. The front of Vehicle 1 struck the passenger side of Vehicle 2 (T-bone). Vehicle 1 continued straight and stopped approximately 43 feet after impact in the middle lane. Due to the impact, Vehicle 2 was forced clockwise and pushed 56 feet off to the Northeast corner of the intersection, where he came to final rest with the rear of the vehicle against a power pole.
Upon police arrival, the driver of Vehicle 1 was unresponsive then regained consciousness. Lee County EMS responded and trauma alerted the driver to a local hospital. The front passenger in Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention. The driver of Vehicle 2 suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
Due to injury severity, M/Cpl. Satterlee and Forensics personnel responded. The next of kin HAS BEEN notified. At the hospital, it was determined that the driver of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries and was released on his own power.
Witnesses who followed Vehicle 1 from Fort Myers saw reckless driving prior to entering Cape Coral, and also saw Vehicle 1 traveling approximately 70-80 mph (witness observation) prior to the crash on Del Prado Boulevard, causing the traffic crash. The speed limit for this area of Del Prado Boulevard is 35 mph.
An active criminal case for reckless driving is being conducted.
