(October 27, 2015)- A second Fort Myers man who was apprehended following a frightening armed robbery in SW Cape Coral last summer has been sentenced to life in prison as a Habitual Violent Felony Offender (HVFO).
Jonas T. Griffin and Justin Devon Diggs were apprehended on June 18, 2014, after robbing the Family Dollar Store located at 2614 Skyline Blvd., following a pursuit in which they crashed their car and fled on foot in the area of Santa Barbara Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway. Griffin was caught near the intersection while Diggs fled into the neighborhood nearby. Diggs was located hiding in a pool box on the lanai of an occupied residence. Both were also charged with a June 10, 2014, armed robbery that occurred at a Dollar General Store located at 924 NE Pine Island Road. On October 12, 2015, Justin Devon Diggs was sentenced to life in prison as a Habitual Violent Felony Offender.
Yesterday in court, Jonas T. Griffin was sentenced as follows:
- Count 1: Robbery with a Firearm- Life in prison with 15 year min/man as HVFO and 10 year min/man per 775.087
- Count 2: Aggravated Battery with a Firearm- 30 years prison with a 10 year min man as HVFO and 10 year min/man per 775.087
- Count 3: Fleeing and Eluding with wanton disregard, lights and sirens- 30 years prison with a 10 year min man as HVFO
- Count 4: Aggravated Assault with a firearm- 10 years as an HVFO with a 5 year min/man, 3 year min/man per 775.087
