(October 3, 2015)- The driver in an overnight street-racing crash has died and his passengers both hospitalized with serious injuries.
Shortly after 4:00 AM, Cape Coral Police, Cape Coral Fire Department , and Lee County EMS responded to a serious injury crash in the 3900 block of Country Club Boulevard. Officers arrived to find a single vehicle (2011 Volkswagen Golf) that was traveling southbound left the roadway and entered the median, striking a street sign and a tree. The vehicle then crossed the oncoming lanes of traffic, striking two parked cars, and finally came to rest after it collided with a residence.
The driver of the vehicle, Marcus Anthony Solloway (O/M, 30) of Ft. Myers, died at the scene. His passengers, Cinthia Astacio (W/F, 23) and Patrick Zachary Padilla (H/M, 34) both of Cape Coral, were both taken as trauma-alerts to a local hospital. Due to the extent of the injuries, Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigator, Forensics, and Victim Advocates responded to assist.
The Major Crash Investigator determined that at the time of the traffic crash, Solloway was street racing another vehicle which has been described by witnesses as a 2004 silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo. According to witnesses, this vehicle stopped at the scene for a brief moment but then fled prior to emergency personnel arriving at the scene. Solloway's car and this Chevrolet may have collided and, if so, the Chevrolet could possibly have damage to the left (driver’s) side of the vehicle and may have black paint transfer on it.
