(March 17, 2015)-  Today, the Cape Coral Police Department in partnership with the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and representatives from numerous state and national insurance carriers conducted a traffic operation, focusing on uninsured motorists and drivers with fraudulent insurance.  Seventeen (17) Insurance companies assisted us with this particular operation.  Thirty-eight (38) Police Officers from the Cape Coral Police Department participated in today’s traffic operation.  As a result:

Two hundred eighty (280) Traffic Stops were conducted between 08:00 AM and 3:00 PM;

Two hundred thirty (230)  Written Warnings were issued;

Sixty-eight (68)  Uniform Traffic Citations were issued, of which:

  • 26 Moving Violations
  • 40 Non-moving Violations of which 15 were for No-proof of Insurance

Five (5) physical arrests, of which three (3) were driving on suspended license and two (2) were for drug possession, of the two one was for Heroin; and

One (1) major traffic crash, involving an intoxicated bicyclist on Pine Island Rd.

"Out of the 280 drivers stopped today, just over 5% had any type of problem with their insurance.  Seeing this kind of voluntary compliance among drivers is very encouraging."- Det. Sergeant Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department Public Affairs Officer.
